March
2006 is Logit Research’s second Anniversary. Over the last two years we have
worked with 25-30 companies on over 70 projects.
Although
our core market remains the British Market Research community – out of which the
company’s applied stats tradition was born, our client-base is increasingly diverse
and includes international consultancies in EMEA and

Networking Event organised by the Independent Consultants Group (ICG) of the Market Research
Society. This Event will take place on
Thursday 23rd March during the second day of the Research
2006 Connections conference, at
the Barbican,
This
is an opportunity for research agencies, consultancies and other buyers of
specialist research services to meet with Independent Consultants who are
expert in their field and make new contacts. A list

The
Event begins at 1.00pm in The Hub, an open networking area and the social heart

contacts.
IT and Software Developments
Logit
Research has recently upgraded its IT hardware to an up-to-date optimal specification
for statistical modelling. Simultaneously new software versions have come to
market. The net effect is that we are now capable of building even more
powerful models using our client’s research data within a reasonable time
frame.
The
biggest developments have been in the area of Latent Class Analysis, one of the
most cutting edge modelling techniques we use. The incorporation of multi-level
clustering and continuous factors into these models are enabling new
applications to emerge on a month by month basis. The new Latent Gold, Latent
Class estimation algorithm, only released in February 2006 allows between
one-third and one-half to be shaved off model estimation times, making the more
advanced models more feasible.
For
an introduction to these issues see our sections on Latent Class Analysis and
Conjoint Modelling in the Techniques and Tools section.
We
plan to summarise real applications in our News section over the coming months.

Methodological Reviews
One
area which for which we are less well known is our Methodological Reviews.
These typically include looking at design issues around sampling and the design
effects of weighting, typically in complex survey designs. Much of
Logit
Research recently undertook a methodological review of the National Rail
Survey, as part of a team of Independent Consultants commissioned by the Rail Passenger Council. Other members of the team included Richard
Roberts-Miller (of Roberts-Miller Associates) and Peter Bartram, former Chair
of the Market Research Society (MRS).
With
the diversification of the market research industry, firms are also
increasingly finding it difficult to recruit and retain methodological experts.
Logit Research can offer consultancy ranging from just a few hours to longer
terms commitments on projects or proposals requiring a more technical
methodological input.
